There is nothing quite so awesome, when you're having a bad day, to look up and see your favorite person has arrived unexpectedly... Work was amazingly awful today. The law of large numbers prohibits that so many random, weird catastrophes should strike the same person within 10 hours, and yet... My day began when I overslept by 15 minutes. Doesn't sound like much, but I only allot an hour to get ready... wake up at 8:30, leave by 9:30. So I lost a quarter of my get-ready time. Left for work with just enough time to get there, provided traffic was good. Thanks to a wreck on the interstate, I actually sat in traffic for 25 minutes. I think I moved 1 mile, maybe 2, during that time. Arrived at work at 10:20, when I was supposed to get there at 10. My 10am appointment was there, and my 10:30. Had them fill out paperwork while I got the computer system and lights up and running. Couldn't figure out how to get the lights to come on- they weren't working the way they had last time I was there. I called my boss and it took 10 minutes for her to get back to me on what to do. Oh yeah- to add insult to injury, the problem was that they switched the lighting out. It was working just fine, I just didn't know it. Thanks for telling me guys, thats nice. Took the 10am appointment back at 10:30. Took the 10:30 appointment back at 11. Told the 10:45 walk-in that I'd try to work them in, but no promises. They tore up their information card and walked out during the noon appointment. Started trying to get out of the studio for lunch at 12:45. (Thanks to oversleeping, breakfast was half of a yogurt cup.) Mat arrived sometime during this time, and went and bought me snack foods in case I couldn't escape. He decided to sit and watch me work, to see if maybe I could get away anytime soonish. He ended up entertaining the kids who were waiting. Finally thought I was going to escape at 1:30, but a walk-in came. Of course, it was a 2 year old... squared. Two year olds are the worst. Photographers groan when there is one on the schedule. Two year old twins is unimaginable. We ended up taking the pictures separately... not together... Told the walk-in that came at 2 that I had to shut down for lunch until 2:30. Finally went to subway with mat and got real food. Mat left shortly thereafter, leaving me with pretzels, tomatoes, crackers and a pepsi. (He wouldn't buy me mountain dew because he thinks I should cut back on it... ) Handled numerous random customer service issues that are completely random.... do people with odd complaints wait until I'm working to bring them in? Got a bazillion walk-ins right before 8.... finally started closing at 8:30. It took the customer service lady three tries to get my money order right... each time she messed up, a csm had to come cancel out the other order. Finally made it home... to hear willy's puppy howling at the top of her little vocal chords. At least shes sleeping now. My life is like a comedy... because only in the movies do so many random (and yet slightly humorous) messed up things happen to one person.... |
